Greenwich Village & Stonewall 🏳️

On June 28, 1969, patrons of the Stonewall Inn — drag queens, butch lesbians, trans women, and gay men — fought back against a police raid and ignited the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. The riots lasted three days. A year later, the first Pride march traced the route from the Village to Central Park. Every Pride parade on earth traces its lineage to this block on Christopher Street.

Hell's Kitchen 🎸

Hell's Kitchen — also known as Clinton — is where NYC's gay nightlife lives today. The stretch of 9th and 10th Avenues between 42nd and 58th Streets is packed with gay bars, clubs, drag venues, and restaurants. As Chelsea gentrified and the Village quieted, the scene migrated here. On a Friday or Saturday night, the sidewalks between Industry Bar, Boxers, Therapy, and Hardware Bar are thick with the energy of New York gay nightlife at full volume.

🍺
Industry Bar

355 W 52nd St — multi-level mega-bar with a rooftop, dance floor, and drag shows. The anchor of HK nightlife.

🏇
Boxers HK

742 9th Ave — gay sports bar, shirtless bartenders, big screens. Game nights are legendary.

🌐
Therapy NYC

348 W 52nd St — cocktail lounge + cabaret venue. Start your night here before the dance bars.

🔧
Hardware Bar

697 10th Ave — bear and blue-collar crowd, cheap drinks, no attitude. A HK neighborhood staple.

🏄
Rise Bar

West Village — go-go dancers, themed parties, and proper NYC nightlife energy until 4am.

🎯
The OUT NYC

510 W 42nd St — NYC's only LGBTQ+ boutique hotel, with a gay bar on-site and 5-star proximity to all of it.

Chelsea by Day

Chelsea is not just Hell's Kitchen's quieter neighbor — it's a daytime Manhattan gayborhood in its own right. The 8th Avenue gallery corridor, Barney Greengrass, Out of the Closet thrift, and the historical lesbian-bar corridor that ran through the WV/Chelsea edges all anchor a walkable afternoon distinct from the city's nightlife identities. Plan a daytime Chelsea walk while you're visiting Hell's Kitchen and the Village after dark.
