Southern Decadence 2026

The South's biggest LGBTQ+ celebration — six days in the French Quarter.

LGBTQ+ Event

About This Event

The largest LGBTQ+ event in the American South, drawing 250,000+ to the French Quarter over Labor Day weekend. Six days of parades, block parties, DJ events, drag shows, and the Grand Marshal-led Sunday parade through the Quarter.

Southern Decadence has been a New Orleans institution since 1979, growing from a small group of friends celebrating Labor Day into one of the world's great LGBTQ+ celebrations. The epicenter is Bourbon Street between St. Ann and Dumaine, where the street shuts down for the iconic Sunday parade led by the year's Grand Marshal.

Gay Nightlife & Venues

New Orleans's gay nightlife is legendary. The Quarter hosts Oz (the largest dance club, open every night during Decadence), Bourbon Pub/Parade (dancing + hotel rooms), and Good Friends Bar (neighborhood favorite with outdoor patio). The Phoenix is a French Quarter staple. Café Lafitte in Exile, on the corner of Bourbon and Rue Bourbon, claims to be the oldest continuously operating gay bar in the United States — a Decadence institution.

Getting There

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) — 20 miles from the French Quarter. Major airlines serve MSY from most U.S. hubs. Uber/Lyft available ($35–45 to French Quarter). Amtrak arrives at the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in the Central Business District, a short streetcar ride from the Quarter.

Where to Stay

Book early — Decadence sells out hotels 3–4 months in advance. The French Quarter is the epicenter; stay within walking distance for the best experience. The Marigny (just outside the Quarter) is a short walk and often slightly cheaper while remaining walkable to all events.
