Mardi Gras 2027

The biggest street party in America — with a massive LGBTQ+ scene

Mainstream Event

About This Event

One of America's biggest cultural celebrations with massive LGBTQ+ participation. The French Quarter and Marigny neighborhoods are epicenters for both Mardi Gras and gay nightlife. The city's live-and-let-live spirit makes it a must-attend for LGBTQ+ travelers.

Krewes like Krewe of Armeinius and Krewe of Mwindo cater specifically to LGBTQ+ revelers. The Krewe of Petronius ball is one of the oldest gay Mardi Gras balls in the US. Bourbon Street and the French Quarter host non-stop parties from late January through Fat Tuesday, while the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods offer a more local, queer-friendly scene. Costume culture runs deep — creativity is celebrated and LGBTQ+ expression is not just tolerated but celebrated.

Gay Nightlife & Venues

The Bourbon Pub & Parade Disco on Bourbon Street is the center of gay Mardi Gras. Good Friends Bar (Quarter), Oz Nightclub, and the surrounding blocks of Bourbon Street host nonstop Mardi Gras events. The Marigny and Bywater have a more local/artsy queer scene at venues like Country Club (clothing-optional pool bar).

Getting There

Fly into MSY (Louis Armstrong New Orleans International). Uber/Lyft are reliable but surge during peak parade days. The Streetcar lines connect the Quarter to Uptown and Mid-City. Drive-ins park on the outskirts and take transit in — parking is nearly impossible during major parade days.

Where to Stay

Book far in advance — hotels sell out months ahead for Mardi Gras. The French Quarter puts you steps from everything. The Marigny is the gay-friendly neighborhood of choice for locals. Boutique hotels and Airbnbs in both neighborhoods command premium pricing in Feb; booking in September or earlier is recommended.
