Boystown / Northalsted 🏳️
In 1997, the City of Chicago officially recognized Boystown as the first municipally designated gay village in the United States — a distinction marked by 18 towering rainbow pylons along Halsted Street that have become one of Chicago's most iconic landmarks. The neighborhood's history runs even deeper: gay bars and community spaces took root here in the 1970s and grew through the AIDS crisis into a community with real political power, real cultural weight, and real staying power. International Mr. Leather (IML)
