Circuit Festival Barcelona is the undisputed heavyweight of the international gay festival world. Started in 2008 and growing every year, the festival has evolved from a weekend event into a 12-day cultural and party marathon. The Eixample neighborhood (colloquially known as the "Gayxample") is the festival's home base.
Gay Nightlife & Venues
Barcelona's gay scene is centered in the Eixample/Gayxample neighborhood. Key venues include Free Way (largest dance club, open every night during Circuit), Arena Classic and Arena Gala (varied nights), and numerous bars throughout the Gayxample. The Mar Bella beach area hosts daily party programming.
Getting There
Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) — 12km from the city center. Aerobús A1/A2 connects to city center (~35 minutes, €7). Taxis run about €35–45 to Eixample. AVE high-speed trains arrive at Barcelona Sants station (accessible via Metro L3/L5).
Where to Stay
Stay in the Eixample/Gayxample neighborhood for the best festival experience. Hotel Axel Barcelona (Gayxample, clothing-optional rooftop) and Hotel Condes de Barcelona (central location) are solid choices. Apartment rentals in Eixample are popular for longer stays.
